6 Trends You Should Try from Spring 2017 Menswear Runway9:27 AM
The best part of being a fashion addict is the constant feed of new trends coming in pretty much all of the time. While New York Fashion Week:Women's shows don't kick of for a few weeks, NYFW: Men's is in full force right now. The shows just wrapped in Europe, and today is the third day of the shows here in NYC. Menswear inspired has been a major trend in women's fashion for multiple seasons - while scanning all of the shows I found 6 great trends that will translate perfectly to your wardrobe right now. And if I have any gentleman reading, obviously some of these could be for you too - think of it as the whole "strong enough for a man, but made for a woman" thing but for fashion.
It would be remiss of me not to mention the Black Lives Matter silent protests that occurred during day two of shows yesterday. The CFDA and most designers/houses have kept quiet on any stance concerning racial injustice, police brutality or the disproportionate killings of unarmed people of color in America. Many influencers have chosen to boycott fashion week activities in response to this very loud silence. I do want to note that both Vogue & Teen Vogue has been very vocal in their support of black lives and acknowledgement of the multiple killings of unarmed men of color, particularly in recent weeks. I appreciate them using their platform to educate, and am excited to link to their amazing photos from the shows in my recap below. Silence speaks volumes, and as the future remains very scary and very uncertain, I like to acknowledge those who have spoken up for peace and equality.
Check out my top trends from S/S 2017 Menswear runway, and a few tips on how to incorporate them in to your current summer wardrobe:
1. Double Denim from Balmain
The key to rocking multiple denim pieces at the same time is making sure the wash and weight of the denim varies. I love to add pieces with leather or wood details to break up the look.
2. Noire Necklaces from Junya Watanabe
So I know these men have neck tattoos and aren't necessarily wearing necklaces - but this is my take on the dark romantic trend from this runway show. You can add a dark necklace to an all white outfit to create edge, or ground a very feminine dress with a bit of goth.
3. Belted Jumpsuit from Valentino & Ralph Lauren
I love this trend so much I had to reference two shows to drive it home. Jumpsuits are nothing new to the fashion world, but these boxy, relaxed silhouettes with the waist shaping belt are a welcomed update.
4. Bright Supersized Sacks from Marni & Gucci
Men carrying bags/purses has been a debated trend outside of the fashion world -inside it has been very major. I loved seeing the colorful bags add the perfect finishing touch to runway looks - and what better way to add your pop of color to a monochrome ensemble?
5. Cropped & Cuffed Pants from 3.1 Phillip Lim
This trend works for us shorties, and for those of you with a few more inches. Whether they are cropped, or casually cuffed, the new length for pants is above the ankle. Culottes, capris, and high-waist trousers are a great way to work this in to your work wardrobe.
6. Primary Color Kicks from Simon Miller
Sneakers and other comfy shoe options are definitely having their moment in fashion. You can use them to finish a monochrome look (head to toe the same color), or to add a pop to an all black or basic white tee outfit. Sexy heels will always be in style, but I am taking advantage of this break for my feet.
